Money Matters Wealth Tip #71 – Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

What does it mean to begin with the end in mind? Simply put you begin with a vision. You create this vision in your mind.

A good example is a blue print for a house. You first start with a vision then you get that vision on paper in the form of a blue print. Once you have the blue print you build the house. This is the second creation.

Everything is created twice

First you create what you want and then you begin to detail it out. This detail is what you will begin to build your vision.

What vision do you have?

What do you want your life to look like? What do you want people to say about you when you pass on?

Create your vision for your life how do you want to live it?

What do you want to be when you grow up?

This is where you create, what it is you want to do in life. What do you want it to look like? How do you want to be perceived?

Many folks write a personal mission statement. Once they have that mission statement they then begin to create a plan to achieve that mission.

Here is an example of one man’s mission statement.

“My mission is to live with integrity and to make a difference in the lives of others”

Additional saying that to fulfill his mission he needs to do these things:

Have Charity

Sacrifice

Inspire

Be impactful

Further defining his roles to achieve his mission as a (what type of)

Husband

Father/Son/Brother

Christian

Neighbor

Change agent

Scholar

Writing your mission statement

Once you have your mission statement you can begin to define your roles and what attributes you want in your character.

Linking this with Habit 1

Habit 1 is being Proactive

What you create in habit 2 keeping the end in mind you now need to be proactive in achieving your goal(s). You have the vision then you create the blue print and begin to build your vision. Through proactivity you will achieve your goals.

Effective for projects other than your life

The same approach can be taken for a project such as entering into a business venture. First you create the end state in your mind. Then you begin to lay out the blue print. A business plan. Who are the customers? What problem are you trying to solve? How much money will it take? Build that blue print.

Now with your end state and blue print intact. Time to get active. Through being proactive you actually begin to build your business which had milestones and time lines.
